|Description||Pipe Cleaner addresses a potentially stubborn disorder commonly known as asthmatic bronchitis. This diagnosis describes a condition caused by inflammation secondary to a viral or bacterial infection, or an allergic reaction. The prominent symptoms are strenuous coughing, with or without wheezing, accompanied by dark or yellow-green phlegm that tends to be thick, sticky and difficult to expectorate.
It is based on a modern prescription, Yin Hua Wu Mei Tang, formulated by Professor Liu Bichen, Pipe Cleaner contains five core ingredients not usually found in traditional asthma formulas: mume (wu mei), fluorite (zi shi ying), uncaria (gou teng), earthworm (di long), and honeysuckle (yin yua) that together contribute potent anti-inflammatory, anti-allergy, anti-microbial, and anti-spasmodic properties to the formulation. Professor Liu explains that Yin Hua Wu Mei Tang " ... astringes the Lung to stop the cough, inhibits pathogenic bacteria and fungi, counteracts protein sensitization and histamine shock, regulates the Lung Qi, dissolves phlegm, moistens the Lung, nourishes the Kidneys, strengthens the Lower Burner, clears Heat, removes obstructions from the channels, and expands the bronchi ..."
Quite often, an acute asthmatic episode follows on the heels of a bronchitis induced by a viral cold or flu, a secondary bacterial sinusitis, or an allergic reaction to food, medication, or the environment. Regardless of the etiology, the pathogenic pattern is one of obstruction and attrition: the accumulation and entanglement of Phlegm, Heat, and Toxins block the natural, downward movement of Lung Qi, dry up the Yin (Moisture and Blood), and, when prolonged, deplete the Qi and Essence of the Lung and Kidneys.
