Origin: Albania
Production: This classic or "true" lavender is an aromatic perennial evergreen shrub with little, greyish-purple flowers that is valued for its sweet, delicate floral aroma and medicinal qualities. It is also known as English lavender as it was originally developed for the perfume industry in England during the 18th century. It is native to the Mediterranean but is now cultivated in all temperate climate zones where it blooms from late spring to early autumn.
Qualities: tiLavender is one of the most recognized aromas and are thought to have many therapeutic properties. antiseptic and insect repellent qualies. It is known to help with relaxation and sleep, relieve tension headaches and anxiety, calm bug bites, burns, and minor skin irritations, and used as an antiseptic and insect repellent.
Lavandula Angustifolia has sweeter scented flowers than Lavandin (aka French lavender) due to its lower camphor content and thus is preferred in culinary applications.
Common use: since ancient times, lavender has been a popular addition to baths, consumed as tea or tinctures, and to give a delightful, floral flavor to desserts, meats, baked goods, and candies.
Storage: keeps well in a sealed container in a cool, dry, and dark location.
