With Jing Jie, expels Wind and stops itching for Exterior patterns in any season, pruritic rash and initial-stage boils. With Bo He, Jing Jie, Huang Qin and Lian Qiao, for Wind-Heat. With Bo He, Jing Jie and Lian Qiao, for Wind-Heat with red eyes and a sore throat With Bo He, Huang Qin, Huang Lian and Lian Qiao, for acne due to Wind-Heat Attacking the upper body.

Clears Heat (especially in the Upper Jiao), relieves toxicity, reduces abscesses and clears Blood Heat.

Expels Phlegm, benefits the throat, expels pus and opens and raises Lung Qi, directing the effects of other herbs to the upper body.

With Gan Cao, for Excess disorders in the Upper Jiao with no disorder in the Lower Jiao. With Gan Cao and Huang Qin, for hoarseness, pain and swelling of the throat due to Wind-Heat. With Bai Zhi, for ulcerated abscess where pus is being discharged slowly.
