This classical formula is an elaboration of Si Jun Zi Tang, adding Pinellia Ban Xia and Citrus Chen Pi. Si Jun Zi Tang is regarded as the main foundation formula for generation of Qi, when it is due to poor Spleen or Lung function. Codonopsis Dang Shen, Atractylodes Bai Zhu, and Glycyrrhiza Gan Cao tonify Qi, and Poria Fu Ling helps dispel Spleen damp. Pinellia Ban Xia and Citrus Chen Pi provide the necessary additions of moving Qi and clearing accumulated phlegm and mucus. (Fratkin, Chinese Herbal Patent Medicines)
